It’s not easy to become a therapy dog but Lily Jellystone sure makes it look that way. She has been recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) as an Advanced Therapy Dog. To achieve this distinction, she started her training at 8 weeks of age and has been diligent in her pursuit of bringing compassion and joy in her every interaction. Her daily routine included 45 minutes of focused training six days a week for over a year. On her first birthday she was awarded her AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) distinction. Shortly after, she was again certified by AKC as an Advanced CGC and Urban CGC. Not satisfied, she began her formal Therapy Dog Training with Bright and Beautiful out of New Jersey. In December of 2022 she was awarded her official Therapy Dog title. With over 100 days of visiting hospitals, schools, retirement facilities and memory care facilities she earned her Advanced Therapy Dog title. Now months away from her 200th visit she is preparing to be awarded her next credential, Expert Therapy Dog.
It has been said that we should learn to “work to live” and not “live to work”. Lily feels like she has never worked a day in her life because she enjoys every moment of her time when she gets to go on a visit.
